Masterclass and Barista workshop – well-attended and a resounding success
Two exceptional talents from the world of culinary excellence shared their expertise at the 6th Edition Masterclass and Barista workshop held by Bestbuy Maldives (BBM) together with Maldives Exhibition and Conference Services (MECS). The event, held at Hulhulé Island Hotel on 19th April 2018, saw 150 chefs from the hospitality industry taking part, gaining tips from Chef Garth Shnier from South Africa and Barista and Molecular Gastronomy star Ronald Prasanto from Indonesia.
Chef Garth Shnier, Complex Executive Chef of Sun International, demonstrated a number of hot main courses and showed some of the latest kitchen techniques used in the worlds top kitchens. In preparation for the Hotel Asia 2018 Culinary competition he coached participants through the process of preparing for an international competition, from psychologically preparing oneself right through to how to plate the dish.
Chef Ronald Prasanto, Executive Chef of Arrack & Spice, showed a scientific experiment with beverages and how molecular gastronomy, can be used in the creation of fabulous beverages and desserts. A relatively new concept across Asia, molecular gastronomy is one of the fastest growing areas of culinary experience with the popularity set to continue for the next decade at least.
“The 6th Master Class event organized by BBM was a top class workshop. This event was saturated with high calibre chefs who shared their extensive knowledge in their respective fields. We have been spoilt with great hospitality and professional organization. If you’ve missed this year’s evening then you’ve missed a great event. Everything from start to finish was well executed. Thank you to BBM for the invitation and investing in the hospitality industry in the Maldives. My team and I have returned with renewed passion and will implement what has been shown.” Says Gabriel Le Roux, Executive chef of Constance Halaveli who participated in the Masterclass.
